In 2009, my husband and I became addicted to Crossfit. Crossfit preached Paleo, which promoted clean eating. We were squatting, lifting and healthy eating machines and it really got me thinking...I EAT clean, but my beauty products are full of chemicals and toxins.
I understood what I needed to put INTO my body to be healthy, but suddenly became aware of what I should be putting ON my body should be "clean" as well. That's when I stumbled upon a website called Environmental Working Group. There is a plethora of information about many of the chemicals and toxins that is in our food supply but the one thing that is SO helpful is their Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. Here, you can look up so many of the cosmetic (as well cleaning) products you may use and it tells you what they're rated; one being the best, ten being just plain yuck ;) Here's a list of my favs: HAIR: Shampoo and Conditioner - Acure Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner Lemongrass and Argon I particularly love the Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner set, however, Acure does offer different formulas that you can mix and match. It does a great job of getting rid of the oils after not washing my hair after a day or two; I love the feeling of a fresh, clean scalp. Leave-In Conditioner - Giovanni Vitapro Fusion Protective Moisture Leave-in Treatment I recently just found this and LOVE it! I like to dry and curl my hair on a daily basis, I know, I know, so bad :( but this is awesome and keeps my hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny. BODY: Body Wash/Soap - Dr. Bronner's Magic Pure Castile Soap Organic in Peppermint This is an ABSOLUTE must! It's so minty and makes you feel so fresh and so clean after getting out of the shower. We also use the Magic Pure-Castile Soap Organic Baby-Mild Unscented for our little ones. Body Lotion - Kirkland Coconut Oil You recognize that name, right?! You got it! Kirkland is a COSTCO brand! There are so many uses for coconut oil besides just cooking. Why not use it as moisturizer? It's amazing! One of my best girlfriends uses it as a makeup remover. Our household uses it for things such as diaper cream, for healing boo-boos and of course, cooking! Deodorant - EO Deodorant Organic Spray in Citrus I have been on the hunt for organic deodorant that actually work for a very long time and I can't believe I am actually, finally going to say it but...I think I have finally found it! Works like a charm and smells great too! FACE: Toothpaste - Redmond Trading Earthpaste Amazingly Natural Toothpaste in Wintergreen Truth be told, we JUST bought this are in LOVE! We have been using regular toothpaste for SO long but after realy reading about the ingredients in out toothpaste, we finally gave in. It is certainly different from regular toothpaste because it has clay in it (weird, I know) but you can't taste it. I was worried about losing that minty fresh feeling when switching from regular toothpaste to organic, but this still gives it that fresh feeling! Wahoo! Two thumbs up! Toner - Thayer's Witch Hazel in Original I love this right after getting out of the shower. It's refreshing and cleans off any residue after a long day. There are so many scents to choose from like rose and lavender to name just a few, however I like to stick with the original. Mascara - Physicians Formula Organic Wear Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara One of my favorite sites to follow is Food Babe. She is amazing and has so much information about the good and bad when it comes to the food we eat. I found my mascara based on an article she wrote. I also look forward to trying the other one's she listed. Thank you Food Babe! Blush - Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Popular This is my absolute favorite! So pretty and versatile, and if you know me, versatility is one thing that I look for when making a purchase. I use it as my blush but if I don't have my lip gloss lying around, I'll use it on my lips. Eyeshadow - RMS Eye Polish in Magnetic As you can tell from my items above, I am very simplistic when it comes to using products on my face. Makeup and makeup brushes just aren't really my thing. Being able to use my hands to put my products is the most simple and easy way for me to apply; so potted items are my favorite! I've never been much of a makeup person but to be really, super honest, makeup intimidates me. I never know what colors to use and more importantly what techniques to use to apply. (What I really need is a makeup consultant/artist to come to my house on a daily basis to consult with and actually do my makeup as well as to just simply teach me! Don't we all?) Lips - Vaseline Lip Therapy in Original Mini Again, my small pot of vaseline suits me just fine ;) The lip therapy comes in a few scents, but again, I always like to stick with the original. Lips - Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink My Jane Iredale Lip Stain is definitely something to write home about ;) It's a self-adjusting lip color that goes on clear and then changes color after a few minutes. That happens when it's FIRST applied as well as after the first few uses. This is a product that I use everyday and now it goes on and turns a nice shade of pink right away. It's definitely too glossy to use as a cheek stain, but it's definitely my go-to for my lips. Thank you for reading! XO~Jenn *This is not a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.
